Jonathan Bleich

Jonathan is now an old man of 10 with over $8000 in stocks from the sale of his works. He sold over 20 paintings before he was 8. His work is sold within a few days, and some sight unseen by collectors who are familliar with his work. He is allowed to spend 10 percent of what he sells and has learned to earn his own way at an early age. There are collectors who own his works who want more but before we can have pictures taken they are sold. Jon is learning how to play the clarinet, excells in his school work and has a wide range of intrests, from the sciences to pokemon. He is a delight to be around.

Jonathan is one of the luckiest kids around. By age seven he has circled the world and become a very talented artist. He is also a very good traveling partner. He didn't mind all the running around that had to be done in order to see all of the things that we did. It should give him an interesting outlook on things as he grows up.

Jonathan enjoys being creative whether he's painting, drawing or making something with clay. He made candle holders for his family that could be sold in candle shops. I told him he could make as many of those for me as he wants.

Jonathan at Giverny

Jonathan started his first plein aire painting at the age of four on Maui along the Hana road. His sense of color and light was superb at an early age. He is a natural.

The photo at the left shows Jonathan painting in Giverny, France, on our trip around the world. On the right, he's painting along the Seine in Vethuil.

Half Dome

Jonathan made this painting of Half Dome in Yosemite. When he started the painting he was just 5 years old, and he said, "Dad, what are the patterns in the trees." Such a profound question from such a young boy.

The painting was boldly handled, which is a characteristic of his work. He titled it "Mine is best of all." This reflects both his desire to excel and his competiveness.

Jonathan felt he had bragging rights when his next Yosemite painting of Bridalveil Falls was in the gallery for a just a few hours before it was sold. I recalled that when he started it on location, he dove in with gusto and was off to a flying start. He asked, "Is mine best of all? " I answered honestly, compared to where Chris and I were with our work, "Yes, I think you are right. Your painting is best of all!" John went and played by the Merced River while I continued painting. The light changed and created a rainbow in the mist that I put in my painting. When Jonathan saw the rainbow, he asked if I would help him put a rainbow in his? I kidded him, saying, "If I do that, yours will be best of all again, Jonathan."

Point Joe
This is Jonathan's painting at Pebble Beach's Point Joe. Like his older Brother, Chris, Jonathan has painted out of doors and along our coastlines since an early age. The sea seems to be a necessary part of our surroundings. Their affinity for it was obvious at an early age. Jonathan's exuberance is evident whether at sea on some sailing excursion, playing in the surf, or capturing it on canvas. The work shown at left sold the first weekend for $300. Joking with him, I called him the "Teeger" Woods (as in Pooh Bear) of the art world.
