Like my life this page is under construction. A general idea will be found in my songs section. I'm very upbeat and really enjoyed my first painting excursion in eight years. I went to Hawaii where I joined up with my son Chris and his family in January 07. I spent six years as a caregiver for my Mom. After my hip replacement at Community Hospital of Monterey Pennisula, Nov. 17, 2005 due to lack of Proper Post Operative Protocol of Not Checking surgical socks for close to week I developed a horrendous decubis ulcer that disabled me for more than a year. I was discharged from rehab with a jar of cream for Psoriasis. With in a week I was informed at the VA Clinic in Montery, That I was in danger of losing my leg. The treatment which involved gradual cutting and healing of the wound very painful. As March 9 2007 I am still in pain as the wound will callous over than open again. and I must wear a global boot. My hip is also bothering me . I operate my gallery on a limited basis The trip to Hawaii was a wonderful distraction from my problems with Heel and Hip. It felt great to be painting out of doors on a regular basis for a week. I started some wonderful paintings that reflected the freedom from intense pain.
If You are a friend are Contemplating Surgery Requiring Surgical Socks Make Sure a wound expert Checks surgical socks for pressure sores A less qualified nurses aid could miss this! If a wound is discovered, A podiatrist should help you !
Above protocol is standard Post Operative Care Protocol In some Hospitals. That it was not at Chomp or Westland House led to my current problems of disability and intense pain coupled with the possibility of losing my leg below the knee. There is still that possibility!
For the good of all patients, the protocol of checking surgical socks daily should be in place in all hospitals across the country. My severe heel wound is hindering hip recovery.
